What do i need,as far as paperwork to get my license? ?

I will soon be applying for my original license,and was wondering if anyone could tell me if i need a DEC(driver's eligibility certificate).I had to have one to apply for my permit,but was told by the people who give them out i wouldn't need one,which conflicts with what the NC DMV says,so I'm really confused.I would appreciate if anyone could help.|||I do believe if you have your permit all you need to do is turn that one in and pass your exams and thats it..you shouldnt be required to have any additional paper work|||all the paperwork you need.
