How long does the state of NC give a green card holder a drivers license for?

I went to get my NC drivers license and the examiner told me that due to me being a green card holder the license could only be issued for 2 years instead of the normal 8. Two of my friends and also two of my family members are also green card holders and they were given their NC drivers license for the full 8 years. So, did the DMV make a mistake with me or with the rest of the people i know?.|||You would have to check the laws in North Carolina. Since North Carolina is a state that is fully empowered to make it's own laws and regulations in respect to the constitution, it can set w/e rules it wants about the issuance of drivers licenses, as long as the laws don't impede upon rights guaranteed by the constitution or, the laws relating to the rights of immigrants according to the INA.|||Is your green card 2 year conditional or 10 year unconditional one?

If it is 2 year one, that means you need to file I-751 to Remove Condition 90 days before the expiration date. Perhaps that could be the reason DMV was telling you for 2 year DL.

If it is 10 year one, then go to other DMV and try to apply DL.|||We live in NC as well. My husband is an immigrant also. His drivers license was issued for 8 yrs. I would call Raleigh and ask what you can do about it.

~~Donna~~|||the same as they do anyone else.
