What will I have to do at an NC DMV to renew a license way overdue?

I have not had a car since sometime last year so I never went to renew my license when it expired on my birthday in December of last year. Seeing as my birthday has come back around, luckily, I have gotten a new car. What consequences will I have for going to renew my license now?
